A few years ago a handful of women tourism entrepreneurs from Bukhara founded the Association of Private Hotels and Small Tourism Entrepreneurs, which is still going strong and has made major contributions to the development of tourism services. Membership has grown into over 20 hotels, restaurants, tour operators, arts & crafts associations and other tourism related enterprises. Enormous efforts are undertaken to gain better know-how, to receive training and in turn provide training for newcomers and hospitality and tourism staff so that visitors to Bukhara may receive the level of service they have been provided elsewhere in the world. Association members adhere to government standards and have set their own standards too, as concerns infrastructure, services, safety, hygiene.
