Humandevelopment.uz - Human development in Uzbekistan
Human Development aims to expand people's freedoms - the worthwhile capabilities people value - and to empower people to engage actively in development processes, on a shared planet. And it seeks to do so in ways that appropriately advance equity, efficiency, sustainability and other key principles.
The scientific works of Amartya Kumar Sen, the Indian economist and 1998 Nobel laureate, as well as the activity of Mahbub Ul Haq, the outstanding Pakistani Economist, have both made significant contributions to the HD concept.
Mahbub Ul Haq became the initiator and one of the authors of the Human Development Report prepared by the UNDP in 1990. Since then, the publication has become an annual one. Moreover, most of the world’s nations prepare and publish their own annual Regional and National Reports based on the Human Development concept. Over 600 global, regional and national reports have been commissioned as a one-time study or as a regular publication, reflecting the human development process in 143 countries. To explore these reports, please refer to the www.hdr.undp.org website.
The HD phenomenon is in the center of attention of pubic authorities, international organizations, academic society, media and civil society and is taking growing recognition in our country. In particular, the UNDP project “Increasing Capacities of Educational and Policy-making Establishments in Promoting and Applying the Human Development concept” is actively engaged in the process of promoting and applying the Human Development concept in Uzbekistan.
